Endore's first novel, about a young, impoverished and somewhat aimless Brooklynite who becomes obsessed with a recently deceased acquaintance, to the point where he moves into the guy's former room and ends up writing a novel about him -- this being the "novel of vicarious adventure" that's essentially embedded inside this one.
