Renaissance Spain was, atbthe beginning of the 16th century, was entering the period of its greatest splendor. This volume described the main current of the Spanish literary Renaissance--the new humanism and influence of Erasmus, the eccentric erudition of Guevara, the new poetry of Boscan and Garcilaso, the exuberant flowering of prose fiction in a variety of forms, the romances of chivalry, the pastoral novel,a nd the dawn of the picturesque.
