About This Item
New York, NY, U.S.A.: Platt & Munk Co., Inc., 1935. First Thus . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Ver Beck, Frank. A continuation of the tale of Sambo, the beloved children's character who has not been immune from charges of racism for both the story & pictures since he was first introduced by Ms Bannerman in 1899. Here, American illustrator Frank Ver Beck (1858-1933) joins her in creating 5 new tales featuring Sambo as he encounters elephants, tiger kittens, monkey people, bears, & crocodiles. The original story is also included. 64 pp. Orig. published by Altheus in 1930, this is the First Printing of Platt & Munk's edition from 1935 (First, thus). Hardcover small 4to (8" x 10.25") has bright orange cloth-covered boards with a colorful paper pastedown to front. Condition is VG: very clean & bright, most pages white & completely unmarked except for this flaw: pages 9/10 & 11/12 have long tears that were mended long ago with cellophane tape, which has yellowed over the years, staining the underlying section of page. Exterior corners mildly bumped, light rubbing to extremities, heavy at both ends of spine, with some cloth tearing at heel & a small missing patch there. NO DJ (Missing). A lovely edition in nice shape! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next day.
