London, John Murray, 1845. Eight volumes. Hardbacks, approx 8.5 x 5.5 inches. Halfbound calf leather and marbled paper to boards. Full gilt decorations to spines, with red and brown leather spine labels lettered in gilt. Marbled page edges and light brown endpapers. In good conditions. Some shelfwear and handling to covers, corners slightly bumped and nicked, boards rubbed. Crack/chip to spine label on vol.VI. Bookplate to endpapers “Alfred Kildesley.” Some dark foxing to prelims and title pages . Some occasional light foxing to inside pages. Else overall a clean and tight set. 8 volumes complete. Considered the best library edition of this work.
