Nichols & Son, 1810. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. Fair ; No jacket. 1810 Nichols & Son. Volume 1 of 3 only. "A New Edition, Corrected." Hardcover is full bound in brown leather, with blind-stamped borders on covers and milled edges. The spine has five raised bands, gold lettering on two panels and gold designs on three panels. Black & white frontispiece. 460 pages. Spine title: JOHNSON'S LIVES OF THE POETS. VOL. 1. Printed by John Nichols and Son, Red Lion Passage, Fleet Street, London NOT ex-library. Hinges NOT cracked. Binding itself is intact. The leather spine covering is cracked along the edge and across in places, and missing some of the top corner; there is a small piece of clear adhesive tape on the front edge of the bottom panel. Leather covering is worn, with tips exposed. Endpapers foxed, but not the pages. Name in ink on title page and another on the front free endpaper. Two pages are missing tip of top corner. One page has a half-inch tear at the fore-edge margin. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Pages clean and unmarked. Three leaves are repeated in the Dryden section; they are randomly inserted and seem to be printed from slightly different plates. No dust jacket. Suitable for repair or rebinding. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
