[ex-rental library book, minimally marked (single stamp on ffep, pencilled list of dates on rear pastedown), spine slightly turned, moderate shelfwear; jacket has tiny tears at a few corners, slight fading to spine, minor soiling to rear panel, one-inch split at top rear hinge]. "Here [the author] tells the story of Edward, a young and aspiring novelist, whose mother guides him in everything, and wards off the World so that he may have peace and quiet in which to fully exercise his genius. Into his life comes Cousin Bessie, whose unbounded enthusiasm and desire to help others at all costs change Edward's life radically." The author was a cousin of illustrator Maxwell Parrish, and wrote a number of popular novels and children's books (a couple of the latter in collaboration with her brother Dillwyn Parrish), primarily in the 1920s and 1930s. .
