The packet ship Apollo, built in 1831, was purchased in 1848 by Moses Yale Beach, the father of the keeper of this journal, Joseph Perkins Beach. She sailed around the horn in 1849, loaded with mining implements other goods to be sold at Gold Rush prices in San Francisco. Abandoned by her crew on landing, Apollo was beached, shorn of her masts, and used as a storehouse, offices and a coffeehouse, before being destroyed by fire in 1851. This is the first definitive biography of a member of the "Gold Rush Fleet". (BCC #183; Kurutz 44). As New copy in the original glassine wrapper.
