About This Item

London: Peter Owen, 1969. First edition. Fine in near-fine jacket.. Signed first printing of the second and scarcer of Grafton's two mainstream literary novels. Grafton's second published novel, preceding her Kinsey Millhone mysteries by more than a decade. THE LOLLY-MADONNA WAR is a gritty tale of violent Tennessee hill-country family feuding that ends in a shower of gunfire and blood: powerfully attractive themes and imagery for 1970s Hollywood, and the novel was consequently adapted into the film LOLLY-MADONNA XXX in 1973 by director Richard Sarafian, starring Rod Steiger, Jeff Bridges, and Gary Busey, among others. Only published in the U.K; rare, particularly signed. 7.25'' x 4.75''. Original bright orange cloth with gilt-titled spine. In original unclipped (£1.75) dust jacket, designed by Keith Cunningham. 189, [3] pages. Signed by Grafton on title page. Very minor scuffing to jacket.
