About This Item

B. T. Batsford Ltd., 1953. Hardcover. Very Good Plus. This is an outstanding work by Heal providing a record of 2500 cabinet-makers , upholsterers , carvers , and gilders with their addresses and working dates illustrated by 165 reproductions of makers' trade-cards. From the London of Samuel Pepys to the London of Queen Victoria , this is a remarkable effort by Heal. R. W. Symonds contributes a chapter on the problem of identification of the furniture they produced illustrated by some hitherto unpublished examples of authenticated pieces. Batsford has done its usual beautiful job of printing and binding. Bound in gilt-titled black cloth over marbled cloth. hinges on this large volume are tight. The interior is clean , no marks.
