Index The Long March forged the cadre that came to rule Communist China. Its leaders began it divided and demoralized, but by the time that the exhausted remnants staggered into the caves at Yenan, Mao Tse-tung had established himself as the most powerful representative of the entire party hierarchy, and position which he never afterwards fully relinquished.
