History of the development of Tamoxifen and collection of essays written as an informed overview of progress of the use of tamoxifen as first-line therapy for breast cancer and as a preventive measure. Know first as ICI 46,474, tamoxifen was synthesized 1962 at McArdle Laboratory with close links to the Univ of Wisconsin. In 1971 Dr. Jordan began active participation in tamoxifen research, a process that consumed more than twenty years to complete. Four years after the publication of this volume, the Oxford based Early Breast Cancer Trialists' Collaborative Group confirmed that tamoxifen saved lives in early breast cancer as suspected. Chapter 1 (of 13), written by Dr. Jordan, is in 8 parts: I, Introduction; II, ICI 46,474: The Early Years; III, ICI 46,474 to Tamoxifen; IV. Adjuvant Tamoxifen: Laboratory Studies to Clinical Trails; V, Node Negative Disease & Premenopausal Women; VI, Tamoxifen: The Overview; VII, The Biological Basis for Prevention; and, VIII, Conclusion.
