About This Item
Synopsis
Jaimy Gordon is an American author. She was born in Baltimore in 1944 and teaches in the MFA program of Western Michigan University. She is also the author of the underground fantasy classic Shamp of the City-Solo . Gordon won the National Book award for Fiction in 2010 for her wry, hard-luck comedy, Lord of Misrule . Set at a racetrack in rural West Virginia, the narrative revolves around an older horse named Lord of Misrule, and a horse trainer named Tommy Hansel. Tommy has a get-rich-quick scheme that does not go as planned. Complicating things is Maggie Koderer, an enchanting adventuress who is drawn to the track, and who also becomes Tommy Hansel’s love. The novel is beautifully written and was praised by the judges as a “vivid, memorable and linguistically rich novel.”
