Text is clean & tight & unmarked. Multiple creases of all four cover corners—front & back, ranging from tiny to four inches long. Bumping & creasing of page corners—lower corners more than upper corners. Creasing along free edge of pp 31, 47, 53, 63, 69, 127, 133, 147, & 237. Some sun-toning along spine.

London: Chappuis, [between 1859 and 1871]. Cabinet card (103 x 62 mm). Photographer's ticket to the verso. Just a couple of tiny spots. Excellent condition. A lovely carte de visite depicting the Crystal Palace in its permanent home at Sydenham sometime after 1856, when the Brunel water towers, one of which is visible in the photo, were erected. The structure was originally built to house the Exhibition of the Industry of all Nations (the Great Exhibition) in Hyde Park in 1851. Popular acclaim saw it preserved and reopened in Sydenham in 1854, but it was destroyed by a fire in 1936. This card bears the ticket of photographer Paul Emile Chappuis (1816-1887), whose Fleet Street studio operated between 1859 and 1871. Chappuis was also an inventor who held several patents on reflectors that would allow light into buildings that would otherwise require gaslights during the day. The firm that he set up to manufacture them was in operation until the Second World War.

This hard to find book offers professional advice for those who wish to keep snakes. It is in good condition with some cover wear, a former owner's gift inscription of the front endsheet, and a very good dustjacket.

Monograph of Reid's early inspirations translated in English on the verso and French on recto, followed by 12 pages of his landscape paintings focusing on trees. These are oil on canvas, painted en plein air. The cover has a minor sticker scar in top right corner and the covers are saddle stitched.

This book details a wealth of information on the geology of several regions of the United States, most notably Washington, the Rocky Mountains, and the Great Lakes. It is filled with maps and other illustrations. The text is a strange mix, with the majority in English, but a substantial amount in French as well. I can't find a pattern in this, and it is not simply a bilingual printing. Size: 4mo - over 9 3/4" - 12" tall. 529 pp. A few marks on the endpapers, but the core text pages are tight and clean. Front board is literally hanging on by a thread, and should be considered detached. The spine covering is broken in several places and is also in imminent danger of being lost.
