About This Item
Barcelona: Hermenigildo Miralles. Hardcover. Cloth spine. Paper pastedown on cover. . Very Good. N.d., circa 1894 (based on an inked inscription). 4to oblong, 26.5 by 37 cm. With cover pastedown image of crowd gathering outside the bullfighting arena, the plates depict every aspect of bullfighting, from the bulls in the pastures to the final stabbing to death and the dragging of the bull from the arena. Each plate's tissue guard, on its recto, has a brief caption and description of what is depicted, and this is rendered in Spanish, French and English. In addition, near the beginning, there are four pages devoted to the song, the March of the Monoleria, and its musical notation is decorated with colorful vignette illustrations relating in one way or another to the bullfight.
