London,, 1969. First Edition. Hardback. No Dustjacket.. Somewhat used but sound. Very good.. 8vo. pp. 334. Frontispiece. Endpaper maps. Original publisher's brown cloth lettered gilt on spine. From the working library of the actor Peter OToole (1932 - 2013) with his posthumous bookplate. This small typographic bookplate reads 'From the Library of Peter OToole and was designed by Michael Mitchell of Libanus Press and was authorised by the executors of his estate. List of clothing handwritten in pencil on preliminary including fawn trouser suit, Arab dress, Mexican dress, St. Laurent jacket, Night wear, Gym shoes etc. most probably in Sin Philipps' hand (Peter O'Toole's wife). The items are divided into mother's large case and two trunks. The film 'Murphy's War' which both O'Toole and Phillips starred in was made in 1971 and was set in Venezuela. Naipaul's book provides an historical background to Trinidad and also includes Venezuela. Peter O'Toole (1932 2013) the famous star of film and stage. Some damp-staining to covers, small tear at foot of spine. Very good.
