First printing of these collected comic "diaries" purportedly by fictional and nonfictional luminaries, including Hamlet, George Washington, Harriet Shelley, Oedipus Rex, and Sherlock Holmes. 7.25'' x 5''. Original gilt-stamped blue and green cloth. 214, [2] pages, followed by 19, [1] pages of publisher's ads. This copy from the library of noted actor and Sherlockean Curtis Armstrong, with his emboss to title page and to page 49. Small bookseller label to rear paste-down. Library markings to spine effaced by silver ink; scuffing and remnants of library markings to front paste-down and front free endpaper. Faint foxing. General edgewear and rubbing to boards.
