Charles Gayarré was a 19th-century American historian who is best remembered for his historical works relating to Louisiana and French colonization. 'Louisiana: Its History as a French Colony' is a series of lectures and reports on the foundations of Louisiana, the exploration of the Acadians, the military prowess of Charles III, and important descriptions of Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
This 1852 first edition of 'Third Series of Lectures' is a complete work on its own and features a folding engraved plan of New Orleans. From the preface: "embracing the period which extends from its discovery to 1769."
