About This Item

London: Chapman & Hall, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. This is No. 78 of 350 copies signed by Evelyn Waugh. A bitingly satirical novella set in a dystopian, quasi-egalitarian Britain. Recently, in an article for The Orwell Society, Richard Lance Keeble suggested that this much-neglected work was composed as a sort of tribute to the author of the recently publised Nineteen Eighty-Four (1948). Decorations by various eminent hands including the author's. Octavo. Original red cloth binding, with decorative gilt stamping. A fine copy.
