About This Item

1886 Harper and Brothers first edition. Uncommon as a true first, with only two other copies currently online

Condition of the book is Good. The binding is sound. Inside pages are complete and unmarked. Condition issues include discoloration of the front board panel, and wear to the book's exterior at the head of the spine and along edges and joints.

Robert Roosevelt was the uncle of Theodore Roosevelt. "Uncle Rob" was a favorite of young Teddy. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, with particular interest in fish and wildlife. He authored several non-fiction books on those topics. Robert's interest the natural world is said to have influenced his nephew Teddy's advocacy for conservation related issues

On the minus side of his personal history, Robert was something of a womanizer, and fathered several children out of wedlock. This book is one of Robert's few attempts at fiction, and termed a "mediocre novel" by one of Teddy's biographers. That said, it is very uncommon, and may be of interest to Theodore Roosevelt collectors.
