About This Item
New York: Harper & Row, 1986. Reprint. Pictorial Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Perennial Library paperback edition; tr. from French by Barbara Bray; cover photo of Marguerite Duras, q932; spine rubbed, sl. lean, some edge/corner wear, few marks on 1st page, otherwise clean and tight. Good reading copy. "Set in the pre-war Indochina of Duras' childhood, THE LOVER is the fascinating story of a 15 1/2-year-old girl and her wealthy Chinese lover. Written in a style described as both 'spare' and 'emotionally charged' it succeeds beautifully in evoking life at the end of the colonial period and in describing the incandescent relationship between the two outcasts." Winner of Prix Goncourt.
