FOUR-STAR BOOKSELLER FAVORITE **** I struggled, as other readers to get through this one, but Sandra Brown rarely lets me down. It took two thirds of the book for me to finally identify with the main character and begin to care about her. It should have happened sooner but her motives were murky. I don't believe this tops my list of faves along with Mean Streak and Lethal; however, I did find the plot unpredictable and yet entirely believable like the romance. I often complain about the happily ever after part believing that unfortunate circumstances do not inevitably lead to enduring romances. Perhaps it was the history between main characters that made it all the more plausible that they should seek refuge together, face the past, and look ahead to a brighter future. I still feel that the pace was slow and Bellamy's memory loss a bit prohibitive to my emotional investment in the story, but once I finished, I found it an intricate and worthwhile read.
