About This Item
The Spencer Press. Very Good+ with no Dust Jacket. 1937. Hardcover. As a novelist, poet, and statesman, Francis Bret Harte was bound to have led a life directing him into many fascinating channels. Most of the literary works which he left behind, show he spent on the California frontier in the days of the gold rush. Born in Albany NY in 1839, Harte left his home for California with the sort of adventure which appealed strongly to his world of experience with the sort of adventure which appealed strongly to his imaginative talents. In 1868, when he was appointed editor of the "Overland Monthly" he wrote "Luck of Roaring Camp" and others of his most successful short stories of frontier days. These early works stand out among the finest American tales, and have continued to be enjoyed by the most critical readers. Including the title, there are a total of 13 short stories in this volume. The collection as a whole depicts a cross-section of fine short story writing such as is rarely found in any single volume. ; Classic Romances of Literature Series; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 309 pages; 30688 . .
