Bordeaux: Imprimeur de la Revue Catholique, 1843. 8vo. 218 x 133 mm. (8 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches). 15 pp. Later wrappers. Inscribed copy by the author to Omalius d'Halley, member of the Belgian senate. First edition (not an offprint). Important scientific argument advocating the unity of all mankind, with specific reference to African race. Serres published this affirming pamphlet during a turbulent period of history where racism and the superiority of Europeans over African, Middle Eastern, and Oriental races was rampant. Marcel de Serres was a geologist and mineralogist at the University of Montpelier. He was also a physical anthropologist and astronomer. His most famous work, De la creationn de la terre and des corps celestes, was the first work of its kind to challenge creationism based on recent observations of stellar distances from Earth and the Sun. Not is OCLC, BNF, or NUC. (122).
