A centenary publication of NYU, detailing the contents of the James Arthur (1842-1912) horological collection which was donated in 1925 to New York University.
Daniel W. Hering, Professor Emeritus of Physics, was appointed Curator, and is the author of this book. In 1932 the collection consisted of about 1,464 items: 224 clocks, 1,190 watches, and 50 books.
A hard to find first edition of a important, detailed, technical, historical and scholarly horological work. Illustrated with a great many black and white photographs and drawings. Hering devotes time to the aesthetic and artistic value as well as to the mechanical ingenuity of these pieces.
