About This Item

London: Frederick Warne & Co, 1909. Very good plus.. Deluxe large format portfolio edition of one of Dulac's most desired books, a quirky ABC. Accomplished with a touch of humor, the alphabet features a letter-based limerick to accompany each illustration. The success of tone and design make this one of Dulac's most sought books. This deluxe edition was issued a year after the standard edition; it is significantly scarcer. 12.5'' x 10.25'' (leaves); 13.5'' x 10.75'' (box). Original brown cloth box with color pictorial paste-on. Signatures loose as issued, portfolio style. Pictorial "endpapers" mounted to thick grey paper of a bard performing onstage. 24 full-page color plates tipped onto thicker grey paper (cw: some racist caricatures). [2] bifolia and [25] loose leaves. Box sympathetically rebacked, with neat repairs to corners. Occasional mild wear to edges of leaves, tiny section of loss to center of front "endpapers" not affecting illustration. Overall bright and clean.
