About This Item

1677 Cicero Epistolae Familiar Letters ROME Paulus Manutius Commentary Elzevier

"A room without books is like a body without a soul."

Marcus Tullius Cicero

'Familiarium Epistolarum' or 'Familiar Letters' is a series of letters by Cicero to Roman public figures. They are considered the most reliable source of information for the period leading up the fall of the Roman Republic. It includes history of Rome, Julius Caesar, Brutus, and other important influences.

This 1677 Hackium and Elzevier edition was published in Amsterdam and is notable for including one of the best and most important commentaries on Cicero – those of Paulus Manutius and Gerolamo Ragazzoni.
