About This Item

London: Allan Wingate, 1947. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. 0x0x0. Very good in good jacket. Jacket spine head and spine base chipped, a few faint spots on front jacket panel, jacket price clipped, top edge lightly foxed. 1947 Hard Cover. 230 pp. Dual text: French and English. Thrity-nine poets are represented in this anthology. Within its covers the great and sustained tide of French poetry is seen sweeping from the Middle Ages to the beginnings of the Classic era--from Machault to Charles d'Orleans and Villon, and through the golden and abundant age of the Pleiades, to the point where Malherbe began to proclaim the rule of reason, logic and clarity. Each poem is printed in the original French.
