About This Item

Stuttgart: Alfred Kernen, 1933. 32.5 x 26 cm. 2 Volumes in blue Morocco with five raised bands, gilt titling to spine, all edges gilt. Light rubbing to boards, with some wear to corners and spine ends. Text contains half title, but title page and introductory pages are bound into the end of the Plates volume. Although Adalbert Seitz initially studied medicine for five years, he then switched to zoology and eventually became the director of the Frankfurt Zoo. In 1908 he retired to work on Die Gross-'Schmetterlinge der Erde', or 'The Macrolepidoptera of the World', which was intended to be a sixteen volume series of all the known larger butterflies and moths of the world. This two-part volume, which has been rebound in beautiful blue Morocco at a later date, has 104 plates printed in 10-14 colors and covers the Indo-Australian bombyces and sphinges.. Hard Cover. Very Good.
