She is known for her beauty, her intelligence, and her lavish lifestyle. However, she is also rumored to be involved in some shady dealings. One day, a man named Gaston Vandeloup arrives in Ballarat. He is a charming and sophisticated Frenchman, and he quickly wins Madame Midas's favor. However, Vandeloup is not what he seems. He is a fugitive from justice, and he is using Madame Midas to cover his tracks. Vandeloup's arrival in Ballarat sets off a chain of events that leads to murder and mayhem. Madame Midas is caught in the middle of it all, and she must use all of her cunning and intelligence to survive. The novel follows Madame Midas as she investigates the murder and tries to protect herself from Vandeloup. Along the way, she uncovers a web of secrets and lies. She also learns that she is not the only one who is hiding something.
