Pp.xii/291, armorial bookplate of Convent of the Immaculate Conception O.S.F. Bocking, Essex to inside front board, light spotting to endpapers. Green cloth with gilt motif and border to central front board, gilttitle and decoration to spine, edges slightly rubbed with bumps to corner tips. Scarce. VG.** Jeanne-Fran�oise Julie Ad�la�de R�camier (1777 � 1849), known as Juliette, was a French socialite, whose salon drew Parisians from the leading literary and political circles of the early 19th century.** "Mary Elizabeth Mohl or Mary Elizabeth Clarke (1793 � 1883) was a British writer who was known as a salon hostess in Paris. She was known by her nickname of "Clarkey". She was admired for her independence and conversation. She eventually married the orientalist Julius von Mohl. She was an ardent Francophile, a feminist, and a close friend of Florence Nightingale. She wrote about her interest in the history of women's rights".
