Light edge wear, browning to endsheets from binder's glue, contemporary former owner name and date to verso of front free end paper, else Fine, in an unclipped dust jacket with light dust-soiling, light toning to the spine, and several edge tears with associated creases neatly mended from the verso. An unusually sharp and bright copy.

One of the most loved books in children’s literature, this story was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1940 and a subsequent book in the Madeline series, Madeline's Rescue , earned a Caldecott Medal in 1954. Written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans in 1939, Madeline has continued to charm readers throughout the years with its beautiful drawings of Paris and spirited heroine.
