About This Item
The first book in the beloved children's series by the Austrian-American author and illustrator Ludwig Bemelmans. This British edition followed the American by 13 years and is much more uncommon.
Synopsis
To fearless Madeline, a trip to the hospital is a splendid adventure. One of the most loved books in children’s literature, this story was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1940 and a subsequent book in the Madeline series, Madeline's Rescue , earned a Caldecott Medal in 1954. Written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans in 1939, Madeline has continued to charm readers throughout the years with its beautiful drawings of Paris and spirited heroine.
