(Avon, CT): Limited Editions Club, 1974. Hardcover. Very small stain on the front cover. About Fine in a Fine slipcase. Sigmund Abeles. Large octavo (7-1/2" x 10-1/2") bound in half glazed black goatskin and boards covered with homespun buckram printed with a stripe pattern in dark grey. Illustrated with 7 full-page copper etchings by Sigmund Abeles reproduced by gravure. Of a total edition of 2000 copies SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page, this is one of only 15 Presentation Copies with the publisher's blindstamp attesting to such on the colophon page where instead of a number the initials "G.C." are handwritten. Acquired directly from the publisher's files, this copy belonged to Gordon Carroll who was in charge of the club's operations in the 1970s when it operated out of Avon, CT. Monthly Letter laid in.

Synopsis

Maggie: A Girl of the Streets is a novella by American author Stephen Crane. It depicts a poor family in a New York neighborhood, whose parents are drunk and abusive. As the children grow up, Maggie attempts to better herself, but is defeated by her desperate surrounds and the poverty of humanity surrounding her.
