Previous owner's name in pencil on ffep. Bit of a smokey odor. Frontispiece with illustration by W. F. Lamb. 333 pp. 7.5 x 5.25 inches. Uncommon. A 251-page novella, The Magic Mantle is an Arthurian fantasy in two parts. The first is set in he time of Arthur and has a prominent focus on the activities of Merlin; the second part is set in the late thirteenth century, where aspirants to the heir of Castle Craydock have to undergo the ordeal of the Magic Mantle. The volume is rounded out with three short stories: ''A Dream with Developments'' (set in the Klonidke Gold Rush), ''The Eerie Piper'' (an account of a family wraith's visit to Dugald the Hermit), and ''The End-of-the-Week Outing Club'' (a little deception occurs during a journey to Canterbury). Stephen Jackson was the pseudonym of John Stevenson.
