New York: Harper & Brothers, 1924. Stated First Edition. B&W photos & illustrations, blue cloth, gilt lettering on cover & spine, corners bumped, minor edge wear, indexed. very good/no dust jacket. The book was the result of many years of study by Houdini into the phenomena of Spiritualism: slate writing, spirit photography, manifestation, ectoplasm, etc. etc. from the time of the Fox sisters to the (then) present-day. His well-reasoned if somewhat blunt rejection of the claims of spiritualism were doubtless a factor in the decline of the movement, and also caused a rift between himself and the author and defender of spiritualism, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who until then had been a friend of Houdini's.
