The official periodical of the National Union of Education Workers of Mexico (SNTE),Formed in 1949, the SNTE is composed of local sections in each of Mexico's states. For much of its history, the SNTE has been a corporatist union allied with the long-ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). The majority of the full page covers and illustrations are by Alberto Beltrán who was an active Taller de Grafica Popular member, and other TGP artists social . The SNTE has dominated Mexico's education sector for decades. As the largest union in all of Latin America today, the SNTE ha tremendous political power and has been able to block any potential overhaul of the old system up to this date. The time span of these issues are informative because of the movement throughout the 1960s and 1970s when the government instituted several initiatives to decentralize the public education system, but none have come to fruition.
