This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Fair dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. There is some light bumping and edge wear to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. There is noticeable toning / glue discoloration to the inner hinges of the endpapers. The rear endpaper has a crack at the bottom rear hinge that travels up about two inches. The front endpaper is fragile and starting to crack as well. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket has edge wear, tears, small nicks and chips missing. The rear spine joint of the dust jacket has parted completely (leaving the dust jacket in two pieces). Scarce in dust jacket. "A. P. Sinnett was curious to know how the Mahatma produced the letters which he received. In response to his inquiry the Mahatma K. H. Wrote: I have to think it over, to photograph word and sentence carefully in my brain before it can be repeated by precipitation. As the fixing on chemically prepared surfaces of the images formed by the camera requires a previous arrangement within the focus of the object to be represented..." "In 1880 Helena Blavatsky and Henry Steel Olcott visited the Sinnetts at their summer home in Simla. The Mahatma Letters, which generated the controversy that later helped lead to the split of the Theosophical Society were mostly written to Sinnett or his wife Patience. The letters started at this time when Sinnett asked Blavatsky whether if he wrote a letter to her Mahatmas, she could arrange to have it delivered." (from Wikipedia) .
