Leather; 5 raised bands on spine, decorative gilt panels, gilt rules, red leather title panel and black leather author/Vol. # panel with gilt rules and lettering, decorative gilt vertical borders to spine; gilt decoration on all edges of leather covers; gilt ruled border on front and back covers; marbled foredges and endpapers. Volume I, 427 pages; Volume II, 428 pages including index and errata page. Minimal marks, Bangor Theological Seminary Library (printed bookplate inside front cover indicating the book a gift from the library of Roswell Dwight Hitchcock, all but invisible, small, sticker on spine, envelope inside rear cover; Hitchcock's ink signature on first blank page of Volume I. Very slight rubbing of leather at top and bottom of spine, short stress cracks at joints at top of Vol. I, at top and bottom of rear joint of Vol. II; small dribble of white on edge of spine of Volume I. A very few foxing spots. Otherwise unmarked, clean, bright, tight, attractive set in near fine condition. Hitchcock was a distinguished member of the BTS Faculty and collected a fine library, much of which was left to BTS. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

We handle books from academic libraries (from institutions and scholars), both deaccessions and gift books from alumni, and from closed Seminary Bookstores. Our original location was on a remote island in Maine, the Island of Frenchboro, and thus the origin of our name. For a time we operated a brick and mortar store in Bangor four days a week, and then moved that to the Antique Marketplace on Main Street in Bangor, which still caries some of our stock.
