First Edition (1941), so stated, with the words "First Published August 1941" printed on the copyright page This First Issue DJ with NO Caldecott Medal on the front flap or front panel of the dustjacket (later dustjackets have the medal sticker on the front flap or front panel of the DJ). The ISBN number was assigned at a later date and is not to be found, of course, on this book. Very Good+ in Good only DJ: The Book shows indications of careful use:just a touch of shelving wear to the lower extremities and very mild wear to the head of the backstrip and upper corner tips; a child's name in pencil has been partially erased at the front free endpaper; some toning near the hinges of the pastedown endpapers; the top edge of the text block shows a tiny dot of soil and the top edge of the rear panel shows several very tiny dots of soil as well; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing several minor, unobtrusive flaws. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. Close to "As New". The DJ shows fairly heavy wear to the extremities with some loss to chipping; moderate rubbing to the panels; price clipped; mylar-protected. Flawed, but functional. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Folio (12.3 x 9.35 x 0.6 inches). 72 pages. Illustrated in sepia tones by the author.
