London: J. & A. Churchill, 1875. 3rd Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 12mo. 276 pages, indexed. Hardcover bound in dark brown cloth with cover designs embossed in gilt. There is light wear to the binding, which is a little bumped at the corners. The hinges are secure. Previous owner's inscription on the title page. Illustrated with plates, some original drawings, and others taken from standard medical texts of the time. The text is toned but clean and sound. The owner's inscription on the title page reads, "Dr. G. C. Lippincott, U.S.N. / 15 New Cavendish St. / London W. / 20 May, 1878." George Coote Lippincott (1850-1951) was from Salem, New Jersey and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1875. He joined the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy and was both an assistant surgeon at sea and was attached to various Naval Hospitals at Massachusetts, Brooklyn, Pennsylvania, and at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. He served on board the U.S.S. Vandalia in the Mediterranean when General U.S. Grant and wife sailed to Egypt, Palestine and Greece (Dec., 1877-Mar, 1878) on their world tour.
