The March of the Barbarians

Decorative front dustjacket is beautifully illustrated to set the tone of the book. The rear of the dustjacket has an author photo and bio. The jacket is uniformly clipped and has numerous tears and chips to the front cover but is protected in a Mylar cover. The pale tan spine and boards are in near perfect condition with a barbarian on a rearing horse in green and black on the front cover, with title and decorations also in black and green to the spine. The corners are near perfect with sharp points and no bumping. Spine is straight and firm, with no cracking to the endpapers. The front endpaper is a map of the "Steppes of Asia at the beginning of Christian Era" and the rear endpaper is a map of the "Mongol Empire – 1275 A.D". Text block is solid with green along the top edge and deckled pages to front of block. Illustrated with maps. Interior pages are also in perfect condition - clean, with no tears, cracks, or previous owner marks. Harold Albert Lamb (1892 – 1962) was an American writer, novelist, historian and screenwriter of both fiction and nonfiction works. He was a prolific writer who was well known in his day but many of his books went out of print (although some are now being re-printed today). His career began writing for pulp magazines and by 1917 he was writing for "Adventure" magazine that continued for 19 years with some 58 stories published. After the success of his book the biography of "Genghis Kahan" in 1927 he wrote more non-fiction biographies and popular history books. Lamb spoke many languages – "French, Latin, ancient Persian, some Arabic, a smattering of Turkish, and a bit of Manchu-Tartar and medieval Ukranian" and with the success of books he was able to travel to Asia and the Middle East where most of his books were set.
