Stated first edition "published Sept. 9, 1938;" deckle edges; map end pages; 657 p., clean and unmarked anywhere; binding tight; sepia boards with gilt lettering on black patch on spine show minimal wear, being well protected by pictorial d.j. that has sustained some injury protecting the volume beneath. The back panel is detached and the tape used to mend it is dry and detaching, leaving stains. Small open tear at crown of spine panel and an small closed tear at upper margin of back panel near corner.
