About This Item
Philadelphia: Dorrance & Co. Inc., 1938. Very rare volume. Inscribed and signed on fep. 8vo size hardcover, quarter bound in copper metal over black cloth, an original idea of the author; 185 pages. "(Miss Akard's) independence and opportunities for travel have served her well and here she has gathered her personal reminiscences in this, her first book." From an article in the Honolulu Advertiser in 1938 about the book: "The narrative includes reminiscences of Reconstruction days following the Civil War, and the "Wild West" during the reign of the cattle baron and the rustler - but Miss Akard has only praise in her book for Hawaii... During her years of travel through the West, Southwest and Hawaii she stored in her memory tales of pioneers, soldiers and Hawaiian chiefs, which she presents with rare insight." Also included is emphemera: publisher's order postcard. Pencilled numbers inside back cover; some rubbing to cover; small scratches and a teeny tiny area of loss near the "R" in "her" in the title on front cover. Thanks for shopping with us. 100% of your purchase benefits charity and supports literacy and life-long learning.. Signed by Author. First. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
