Hartford: The American Publishing Company, 1875. First edition. Hardcover. Orig. publisher's pictorially stamped blue cloth decorated in gilt. Very good. 320 pages. 22 x 17 cm. Frontispiece and a host of in text woodcuts. A collection of short stories, all fictional save one. True Williams illustrated this work as well as many others by Twain. Alcohol ended his career. Laid-in an Erratum slip noting, "By an error of the publishers the above sketch, 'From Hospital Days' was inserted in this book. It should not have been, as Mark Twain is not the author of it. It will not appear in any future edition." BAL3364. Wear to backstrip extremities, lower corners rubbed.
