About This Item

Philadelphia: American Sunday School Union, 1827., 1827.. Good. - Tricesimo-segundo (32mo), 5-1/4 inches high by 3-1/4 inches wide. Hardcover, bound in marbled boards backed with a black cloth spine, titled in gilt on the spine. The covers are rubbed with wear to the corners and head & tail of the spine. A total of 154 pages, including 141, [1] numbered and 12 duplicate pages that are bound in. Illustrated with a wood-engraved frontispiece by George Gilbert. The rear hinge is cracked and there is scattered foxing throughout. Good.

The book is signed in print at the end with the letter "L". Signature "G", pages 73-84, has been bound in twice.

George Gilbert, a pupil of William Mason in 1818, engraved for "The Casket" from 1826-1839.
