Recreation of the brutal 1864 massacre of some two hundred peaceful Cheyenne men, women and children at Sand Creek in southeast Colorado Territory. Voices of Colonel John Chivington who planned the surprise attack. Captain Silas Soule the sole officer who refused to participate, and mountain man John Smith who watched his half-Cheyenne die are based on historical records. The larger than life tragic figure is Black Kettle who so trusted the white man he waved the white flag of peace even as the soldiers advanced. A song of a great betrayl in the annals of American history. Fine copy.
