Quarto, x, [2], 50pp, [12pp illustrations]. Tan cloth, title stamped in brown on spine. Stated "fourth printing May, 1942" on copyright page. Solid text block, bumped corner, vibrant illustrations, a near fine example. In publisher's dust jacket, $2.00 retail price on front flap, small closed tears and rubbing to front panel, faint shelf wear, a very good example. Signed by author on the half-title. Originally published in 1941, The Matchlock Gun was Walter D. Edmonds' first children's book, and it won the Newbery Medal in 1942.
