This edition is undated, and we have not been able to determine whether it is earlier or later than another edition that is dated 1909 and credited to Kobe-based photographer S. A rare, 19th century Japanese woodblock print of "Taikouki". Taikouki is a biography describing the life of Taihe Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a Japanese samurai and daimyo (lord) considered the second "Great Unifier" of Japan following Nobunaga and preceding the Tokugawa Shogunate. Hideyoshi left a legacy including Osaka Castle, the Tokugawa class systems, the restriction of weapons, and the construction and restoration of many temples some of which are still visible in Kyoto. This book is a classic Edo era picture book describing and illustrating Toyotomi Hideyoshi's life illustrated by Utagawa Kuniyoshi! Cornelis Schrevel was a 17th-century Dutch scholar and while he was a physician, he is most known for his 'Lexicon'. This Greek-Latin dictionary was designed to aid in writing, grammar, and translations from Latin to Greek with both Greek and Latin languages. This 1685 edition is a first edition published by Hayes in Cambridge.
