Matilda and Her Family by Miriam E. Mason - 1943

Hardbound, forest green cloth boards with black text on the front cover and spine, with black cat design on cover. Boards are in very nice condition with only slight wear at the top and bottom of the back strip. Corners are sharp with the slightest of wear at each corner. Spine is straight with no cracking to the endpapers. Front endpaper has bookstore sticker in lower right corner. Text block is solid with all pages firmly attached. Slight age tanning throughout. There are some smudges to the frontispiece illustration and title page but otherwise all interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks or previous owner marks. Matilda is an independent cat, after a tiring journey along the Dixie Highway finds a home for her four children – Silk, Satin, Calico and Rags and then describes how they got along in life. Miriam E. Mason (1900 – 1971) was the author of more than 57 children's books. Meg Wohlberg (1905 – 1990) worked as an advertising illustrator during the 1930's before beginning her career as a children's book illustrator in he 1940's.
