Gullah is a very old language still spoken by some people who live on the Sea Islands along the Southeastern coast of the US. Gullah developed from African roots, was brought to America by slaves, and formed on the Southern plantations - a blending of African words and speech patterns and the English dialects. This album was recorded by Virginia M. Geraty in Charleston, South Carolina to help preserve the language. Side one features Maum Chrish' speaking in Gullah to customers at the market; side two features two Gullah sermons Rebus te Rebulashun. A Very Good Vinyl Record, (meaning some surface noise and/or light wear evident) in a Very Good Record Sleeve, which features a Glossary of Gullah words to rear.
